During the fall 2018 semester, residents living on campus competed to see who could reduce energy and water consumption the most. Congratulations to Arizona-Sonora, Babcock and Navajo-Pinal dorms for having the highest number of participants. Thanks to the reduction in consumption, Housing:

  • saved enough electricity to stream Netflix constantly for 200 years (98,997 kWh)
  • saved enough electricity to power 8 homes for an entire year
  • saved enough water to fill 3,744,492 bottles (494,390 gal)
    • If we lined all these bottles up end-to-end, they would span 472.8 miles!
  • All dorms combined, we decreased our electricity usage by 9% and our water usage by 11.5%
  • The winning dorms decreased their utility consumption by:
    • Babcock: a whopping 39.3%(!)
    • Arizona-Sonora: 14.7%
    • Navajo-Pinal: 18%
  • 947 students signed the pledge to reduce
  • The two winning dorms had 26% of their total population sign the pledge to reduce

On behalf of the Housing Sustainability team, we appreciate all of your hard work to make this another successful competition.
