Random selection for mandatory COVID-19 testing

Random selection for mandatory COVID-19 testing

The following information was shared with on-campus residents Wednesday, September 23 regarding the random periodic testing of students. Please refer to the University's main Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information page regularly for important campus information.

Thank you for your commitment to your health and the health of your fellow students. You are helping to reduce the risk of COVID-19 on campus by using Wildcat WellCheck, wearing a face covering, maintaining physical distancing, and downloading the Covid Watch app.

As you know, as part of the university’s Test ALL Test SMART program, all residents of specific dorms are periodically required to get tested. To compliment the mandatory testing of all residents in selected dorms, the University will begin mandatory antigen testing for randomly selected asymptomatic dorm residents across campus as described below.

Systematic random testing
Up to 40-45% of COVID-19 infections are asymptomatic. To complement other testing methodologies, we will begin systematic testing of randomly selected asymptomatic dorm residents.

Systematic random testing will allow us to continue to identify individuals who have been exposed to COVID-19 virus but who are not exhibiting symptoms. This testing will be in addition to any dorm-level testing that might occur based on other public health metrics. It will provide timely information to help keep our dorms, campus and community as safe as possible.

If you are selected for random testing, you will receive an email with complete instructions the day prior.

Thank you for continuing to do your part in keeping our campus community safe. Bear Down and Mask Up!

Note: If you are currently experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, or if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 at the time you are randomly selected, please contact Campus Health or your health care provider for testing.
