Getting involved in different organizations in college is a great way to meet new people, gain leadership skills, and improve your resume. Here's a quick look at some ways you can be involved in your Housing & Residential Life and campus community:
Involvement
RHA
As a member of our residential community, you are automatically a member of the Residence Hall Association (RHA). RHA is the official voice of on-campus residents and works closely with department leaders to promote a great residential experience for students. In addition to advising Housing & Residential Life on issues of policy and budget; RHA is a programming and leadership development group, putting on large-scale programs such as Hall Involvement Team (HI Team), Block Party, Taste of the Union and Hall Leadership Camp. RHA general body meetings are always on Thursdays at 5:00 PM.
Hall Council
Each dorm has a hall council to provide a variety of services and programming opportunities for residents. Hall councils play a key role in setting the tone in each residence hall by planning social activities and educational programs. Hall councils also work towards improving amenities and services provided in the dorms. You will receive more information about your specific hall council when you move in, or you can contact your Community Director.
National Residence Hall Honorary
The National Residence Hall Honorary is the only nationwide organization that exclusively recognizes leaders in the dorms; it is also considered the recognition branch of the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH), Inc. NRHH is the premiere honorary dedicated to recognizing the top 1% of leaders living in residence halls. NRHH’s outstanding leaders demonstrate excellence in scholastics, are role models of service, are bestowers of recognition, and are exercisers of leadership. Visit the National Residence Hall Honorary website for more information about the Omega Eta Lambda Chapter.
Eco-Reps
Do you believe in taking care of the earth and its people? Are you interested in being a voice for change and progress? Join Eco-Reps to learn how you can make a difference. Meetings are held every other Thursday from 7-8PM in El Portal. Eco-Reps can look forward to being a consistent voice for the environment in their dorm communities. Eco-Reps are the driving force behind our annual large-scale sustainability programming like Bin It to Win It and Less is More; helping bring glory (and sometimes prizes) to your dorm. Eco-Reps also create one-of-a-kind programs to educate other dorm residents on sustainability. Eco-Reps is a great way to get involved, meet other people who care about sustainability, make connections and friendships outside of your dorm, and make a difference. So, whether you’re an expert or just have a budding interest, join us to advocate for sustainability in your building.
ACT
What is ACT? ACT stands for Advocates Coming Together and started in Housing & Residential Life in the fall of 2008. ACT is comprised of a group of students who live in the University of Arizona dorms, and are passionate about working for inclusion and making change. ACT’s goals are to learn about and reflect on systems of oppression (ableism, cisgenderism, classism, heterosexism, racism, sexism, etc.) and address these issues at the University of Arizona.
Mission Statement: ACT is a Housing & Residential Life group that strives to educate students on issues of equity and equality, to have pride in the University of Arizona’s diversity, and to take action to make UA a more inclusive place.
HI Team
Hall Involvement Team (HI Team) is a group of selected students who arrive early to campus for leadership training and to help students move into the dorms. HI Team is an excellent leadership opportunity for new students who are living in the dorms. Interested? Be sure to check your CatMail throughout the summer for information and application details.
Campus Involvement
Whether your interests are social, academic, athletic or Greek, the UA has something for everyone. For more information on organizations and getting involved, contact the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership, or check out the list of registered student organizations.
ASUA
ASUA, the Associated Students of the University of Arizona, is your University-wide student government. ASUA offers a wide variety of programs and services that students can both help organize and utilize. These programs range from planning carnivals, raising funds for scholarships, and representing student concerns to the state legislature. Also, ASUA is responsible for the overall functioning of nearly 500 clubs and organizations that make up the campus environment.
Cats After Dark
Cats After Dark puts on late-night events just for Arizona students. These events not only provide a fun time for all but also an alternative to other late-night activities.
