Graduate Community Director Information

Graduate Community Director

The Graduate Community Director (GCD) is a member of Housing’s Residential Education Team. A GCD will manage/oversee a residential building of 107-238 residents or co-administer the daily functions with a Community Director of a co-educational hall of 350-1,000 residents. 

The GCD will be providing residents and student-staff with support and leadership, promoting an inclusive community, and providing crisis response and management. This position will afford a professional opportunity to expand on the leadership skills gained as an undergraduate and explore the housing field as a possible career path. This is a 10-month, part-time, live-in position that reports to a Community Director, Program Manager, or District Assistant Director. Questions may be directed to: HSG-GASearch@arizona.edu

You can be in almost any U of A Master's program to be considered for a Graduate Assistant position!

Interested in the Higher Education M.A. program? If so, candidates accepted into the Higher Education master program are given priority interviews for the GCD role. Applications for admissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning in December 2024. 

Other Master’s program application deadlines may vary. For information about all UArizona Master’s programs, visit grad.arizona.edu

(Students enrolled solely in Certificate or non-degree seeking programs are not eligible for GA appointments. Law, Medicine and Pharmacy (PharmD) students are not eligible for GA positions unless concurrently enrolled in a regular graduate degree-seeking program).

Application Process

Thank you for your interest in our Housing Graduate Assistantships at the University of Arizona.

The Committee is excited about this year's process. We will begin reviewing applications soon and will continue until all positions are filled. Currently, we are anticipating several openings and are excited to consider your application for our Graduate positions.

Our team will review your application and begin the process when your application is complete. 

To apply for a GCD position for the 2025-26 academic year with a start date of July 2025:

  • Please submit your application here.
  • When submitting your application using the above link, you will be asked:
    • List of three professional references with contact information.
    • The best email to contact you
    • A phone number to contact you
    • Your current UA Graduate Program Status for Fall 2025. (Example: In the process of submitting an application, submitted application, accepted into a Graduate program, enrolled in a Graduate program)
    • Higher Ed Graduate Program? Yes or No
    • What Graduate Program, if not Higher Ed?

Please note that all offers are contingent upon the candidate's admission to a graduate program at the University of Arizona. It is advantageous for you, as a candidate, to apply to the graduate program of your choice as quickly as possible.

Priority for Graduate position offers is given to successful applicants who have been admitted to the Higher Education Master’s program. For those applying to the Higher Education Master’s program, you should apply by January 2025, early applications will receive priority review for admission and graduate assistantships. Please note, the Higher Education M.A. program has dropped the GRE requirement.

Housing GAs are live-in professionals and are provided a furnished apartment in one of our dormitory communities.

Pet Policy

Graduate Community Directors are permitted to have up to two animals in their apartment, including dogs, cats, and fish pending approval process and payment of fees.

Professional Development

Graduates are given professional development funds which can be used for conferences, association memberships, books, and other professional development opportunities as approved by the Director of Residential Education.


University-Specific Graduate Assistant Benefits

Full Tuition Remission Graphic

Tuition Remission & Out of State Tuition Waiver

A Graduate Assistant and Graduate Community Director concurrently employed during the fall and spring academic semesters will be charged at the GA Reduced Tuition rate in place of non-resident tuition rates. This will have the effect of negating the difference in tuition between the resident and non-resident tuition rates. This benefit is only available during fall and spring semesters. This benefit is not applicable to Outreach College tuition. During fall and spring semesters, GAs are eligible for a remission of their tuition. The value of the tuition remission that a GA receives is dependent on their FTE and enrollment. This benefit is not applicable to Outreach College Tuition.

GCD Health

Student Health Insurance

All grads are eligible for coverage of the premium of the individual student health insurance through the University of Arizona Campus Health. This benefit is not transferable. To receive this benefit, a student must enroll in the student health insurance program during their open enrollment period. Students enrolled in the plan cannot cancel their coverage after the open enrollment period, even if they resign or are terminated. Students who resign or are terminated during the period of coverage will be responsible for payment of the premium. A student will be automatically re-enrolled in the student health insurance program upon enrollment in the subsequent major academic term. One must take action to cancel or modify their enrollment in this plan.

Bookstore Discount

Grads are eligible for a 10% discount off the price of select items purchased at all ASUA Bookstores, subject to Bookstore policies in effect. This benefit goes into effect once hiring information is loaded and requirements are satisfied. This benefit must be mentioned at the time of purchase to receive it. This benefit is not available retroactively. Speak with representatives at the Bookstores for more information about this discount.
