Sustainability

The University of Arizona department of Housing & Residential Life is committed to sustainability—so much so that we have a full-time Senior Coordinator of Sustainability Operations & Initiatives who develops and promotes sustainable education and programs in our dorms!

Some of Our Programs Include:

Bin It to Win It

Part of the Wildcat Living Residential Curriculum, this competition is held in October and is designed to enhance residents’ recycling knowledge. Dorms earn points for recycling, engagement, and videos—and the dorms with the most points win. [Occurs during the fall semester]

Less is More

Dorms will compete head-to-head to see who can reduce their energy and water use the most. Staff will share conservation tips while students sign an online pledge to conserve. The dorms with the biggest utility savings and most pledges win. More info here. [Occurs in the spring semester]

Dodge the Dumpster

Can’t (or don’t want to) take your stuff home? During dorm move-out in May, you can donate what you no longer need to our non-profit partners, so those items can be reused or recycled instead of trashed and sent to the landfill. [Occurs in May]

Eco-Reps

Do you believe in taking care of the earth and its people? Are you interested in being a voice for change and progress? Join Eco-Reps to learn how you can make a difference!

Eco-Reps can look forward to being a consistent voice for the environment in their dorm communities. Eco-Reps are one of the driving forces behind our annual large-scale sustainability competitions, helping to bring glory (and sometimes prizes) to their dorm.

Eco-Reps create one-of-a-kind programs to educate residents about sustainability. Joining Eco-Reps is a great way to get involved, meet other people who care about sustainability, make connections and friendships outside of your dorm, and make a difference. So, whether you’re an expert or just have a budding interest, join us to advocate for sustainability in your building. Learn more by watching the video:

When you move in, talk to your RA or CD about joining the Hall Council. Eco-Rep is one of the available positions! Students meet regularly with their Hall Councils, along with meeting as a larger Eco-Rep group every other week. Students who live on campus who do not want to be a part of Hall Council can still join Eco-Reps by emailing HSG-Sustainability@arizona.edu and indicating interest. Please send all questions to HSG-Sustainability@arizona.edu
