During your time living on campus, you or a friend may encounter a variety of difficult situations like life traumas, family or personal crises, or other barriers that may impede your success as a student. The Housing & Residential Life Student Assistance Team works through a variety of interventions, referrals and follow-up services to support you or a student of concern. We work closely with the Student Assistance Team in the Dean's Office to provide any support that our on-campus students might need.
We strongly encourage reaching out if you are concerned about yourself or someone you know, and we can help you identify what situations might require assistance.
What is a Student of Concern?
A student of concern may struggle in such areas as psychological health, physical health, victimization, relationship issues, social adjustment and academics. Changes in a student’s habits, attitude or behavior can be a sign that a student might need extra attention or assistance.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR:
The Dean of Students website page can help with identifying distressed students.
Students of concern do not always display obvious changes in behavior or personality. Sometimes, these changes can be small or minimal. When in doubt, we recommend reporting any student of concern that you believe is in need of some assistance from one of our on-campus departments.
Some examples of concerning behaviors include but are not limited to:
- Self-harming or threats of self-harming behavior
- Changes in personality or mood
- Discussion or presence of weapons
- Substance abuse including alcohol, drugs, or medication
- Disclosure of assault or sexual violence
- Unable to sleep and/or eat
- Behavior that appears impulsive or out of control
- Signs of depression or anxiety
- Behavior or comments that make you fear for your personal safety
- Skipping class or sleeping all day
- Inappropriate comments or behaviors
- Alarming or disturbing social media activity, content or posts
- Any noticeable behavior or personality change

Housing & Residential Life Student Assistance Team
Our Housing & Residential Life Student Assistance Team connects on-campus students with useful resources that may benefit their social, personal and academic success. While we do not provide counseling services, medical advice or academic advising, the Housing & Residential Life Student Assistance Team meets one-on-one with students and connects them with resources both on and off-campus that may help them navigate their situation.
